Cookie Policy

Last updated: October 15, 2026

This page explains what cookies and similar tools songcry.app puts on your device, who sets them, and how to turn them off. It covers the website at songcry.app, the Songcry app (section 6) and artists.songcry.app (section 7).

1. What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file a website saves in your browser. Local storage and session storage are similar. They hold small pieces of information in your browser instead of in a file. In this policy, "cookies" means all of these.

2. What we use cookies for

We use cookies on songcry.app for one purpose: advertising measurement. We use them to tell which of our ads on Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google led someone to join the waitlist, apply for artist access, or tap through to the App Store or Google Play. The same tools also let Meta and Google show our ads to people likely to be interested.

We do not set cookies to sign you in on this website. We do not use cookies to remember your preferences. We do not run Google Analytics on songcry.app. We do not use cookies for anything that plays music, because the website does not play music.

We load these advertising tools only for visitors in the United States. If you are anywhere else, or if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal (see section 8), we do not load them and none of the advertising cookies below are set. Because of that, the website has no cookie banner. If you are in the United States and do not send that signal, the tools load when the page loads. You can turn them off with the steps in section 5 or the choices at songcry.app/legal/privacy-choices.

3. The cookies and storage we set

These are the cookies and storage we found on songcry.app on October 15, 2026, from the site code and by loading the site in a browser.

Set by Meta (the Meta pixel)

  • `_fbp` is a cookie on songcry.app. It gives your browser a random ID so Meta can match a visit to an ad. It lasts about 90 days.
  • `_fbc` is a cookie on songcry.app. It is only set if you arrive by clicking a Meta ad, and it stores that click so Meta can credit the ad. It lasts about 90 days.

Set by Google (the Google Ads tag)

  • `_gcl_au` is a cookie on songcry.app. Google uses it to measure whether an ad click led to an action on our site. It lasts about 90 days.
  • `_gcl_aw` is a cookie on songcry.app. It is only set if you arrive by clicking a Google ad, and it stores that click so Google can credit the ad. It lasts about 90 days.
  • `_gcl_ls` is a local storage entry in your browser. It is also part of Google's ad measurement. It stays until you clear your browser data.
  • `lastExternalReferrer` and `lastExternalReferrerTime` are local storage entries in your browser. They record which site sent you to us and when. They stay until you clear your browser data.
  • `test_cookie` is a cookie on doubleclick.net, a Google advertising domain. Google uses it to check whether your browser accepts cookies. It lasts about 15 minutes.

Set by Songcry

  • `songcry.firstTouch` is session storage in your browser. It remembers which campaign link first brought you to the site, so a sign-up is credited to the right campaign. It is only written when you arrive from a campaign link, and it is deleted when you close the tab.
  • `hm-last:` entries are session storage in your browser. They remember your scroll position on a page. They are deleted when you close the tab.

Google and Meta may set other cookies on their own domains when their tags load. Those are controlled by Google and Meta, and the lists above may change as they change their tools.

4. Who else receives information

When you open a page on songcry.app, your browser connects to Google (googletagmanager.com, doubleclick.net, google.com and googleadservices.com) and Meta (connect.facebook.net). Those companies receive your IP address, your browser details and the identifiers in the cookies above. Their use of that information is covered by their own policies.

To opt out of personalised advertising:

  • Meta: facebook.com/adpreferences
  • Google: myadcenter.google.com

When you submit the waitlist form or the artist request form from the United States, our servers also send that event to Meta (this is called the Conversions API). It includes a scrambled (hashed) version of your email address, your IP address, your browser details and the `_fbp` value if you have one. We do not send it for visitors outside the United States or for visitors who send a Global Privacy Control signal.

Our Privacy Policy explains what we share with Meta and Google and how to ask us to stop.

5. How to block or delete cookies

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Each browser does this differently. Look for "cookies" or "site data" in the privacy settings. You can usually block third-party cookies, block cookies from specific sites, or clear everything when you close the browser.

You can also use a content blocker or a browser that blocks advertising trackers. If you block these cookies, songcry.app still works. The pages, the waitlist form and the artist request form do not depend on them.

Your phone's ad settings (on iPhone, Tracking in Privacy settings; on Android, Ads in Google settings) control the advertising ID that apps can read. They do not block cookies in your browser. To block cookies, use your browser settings or a tracker blocker.

6. The Songcry app

The Songcry app does not use advertising cookies or advertising tools. When you install it, the app creates a random install ID. Each time you open it, it also creates a session ID. Our servers scramble (hash) both IDs and use them only to spot fake plays and other fraud. We never use them for advertising and never share them with advertisers. On iPhone the install ID is kept in a way that survives deleting and reinstalling the app. On Android it does not survive a reinstall. The Privacy Policy explains the rest of what the app collects.

7. artists.songcry.app

The artist sign-up site at artists.songcry.app uses the same Meta and Google advertising tools described above, and also uses Google Analytics. As on songcry.app, they load only for visitors in the United States, and not at all if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal.

8. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of sharing. We do not load the Meta pixel or the Google advertising tag for your visit, and our servers do not send your details to Meta or Google. Do Not Track is a different, older setting and we do not respond to it. See songcry.app/legal/privacy-choices for how to turn Global Privacy Control on.

9. Changes to this policy

If we add or remove a cookie or a tool, we will update this page and the date at the top.
